Hey everyone! My name is Anna Roth, and I’m running for re-election to serve as one of your ASSU senators! A little bit about me: I’ve grown up all around the world as a military dependent from Los Angeles and Seoul, to Alabama and Germany (+ 5 more!), and I’m majoring in economics and political science here at Stanford. As a Parliamentarian of ASSU this year and a cross-town Army ROTC cadet, I can’t wait to continue to represent my fellow peers.
Here’s some of the things I did last year:
Coordinate monthly meetings with the Stanford Department of Public Safety to address bike theft, pedestrian safety, and emergency services transparency
- Focus specifically on bike safety and theft initiatives
- Discuss and coordinate a plan of action for implementing lights around Lake Lag.
Contribute to initiatives regarding Residential & Dining Enterprises to elevate student concerns about dining quality, menu consistency, and modernization of special dietary accommodations
- Work with fellow senators to advocate for to-go boxes in dining halls (they said no three times already, but we will prevail!)
- Has anyone noticed Arrillaga has been cooking lately? (literally)
Identified overcrowded bike racks and worked with campus partners to accelerate the removal of abandoned bicycles and improve safety in high-traffic areas.
- Hundreds of bikes have been removed!
Advocate with other senators for undergraduate inclusion in the Caltrain Go Pass program, pushing for expanded transit affordability to Stanford Transportation
- If Berkeley has it, why can’t we?!
Increased Senate Accessibility by organizing town-halls and senator coffee chats and townhalls
- Who doesn’t want a free drink?
Supported and voted on initiatives expanding on-campus civic engagement, including efforts to increase voting accessibility and clarify free speech and protest policies
Here are some of the things I hope to continue working on next term:
- Finalize undergraduate access to the Caltrain Go Pass by working directly with Stanford Transportation to move from discussion to implementation
- Amplify students' voices by implementing an anonymous feedback system for students to contribute and raise ideas
- Advocate for more recorded lectures, especially for large classes (Whether you’re someone with class conflicts, or want to attend a different opportunity on campus, we all deserve to learn at our own pace!)
- Develop even more 24-hour study spaces
- Organize a free bike-light event for all students during NSO and beyond
- Provide increased transparency on what ASSU is up to, with MORE coffee chats, tablings, social media updates, and check-ins
- Elevate underrepresented voices, not just in conversation, but in policy (ex. AANHPI and FLI students)
- Improving funding transparency and equity so students and VSOs understand where their fees go, and have confidence in how resources are distributed
- More transparent and streamlined housing processes for study-abroad students. (Too many students don’t get to reclaim their old room when they are literally open!)
My mission is simple: ensure students are heard before decisions are made, resources are distributed equitably, and everyday campus life actually works for us.
