Hello!
My name is Diego Medina-Gutierrez, and I am running for ASSU Undergraduate Senate! Together with my friend Liliana Karesh, we hope to L&D - Listen and Deliver. Our platform and goal as student leaders is to improve the connection and responsiveness between the ASSU and our students to meet the needs of our diverse and beautiful Stanford community.
Our plan on how to Listen and Deliver:
INCREASING ASSU ENGAGEMENT & REPRESENTATION WITH THE GREATER STUDENT BODY
- ASSU Engagement with Student Body: Increase the frequency of coffee chats, town halls, and ASSU office hours to engage with the student body
- ASSU Student Representation and Communication to Administration: Develop a centralized platform for students to engage with Stanford Administration directly or through the ASSU
- Accountability and Visibility: Develop end-of-quarter reports displaying ASSU major decisions and their measured impact on students
EMPHASIZING THE IMPROVEMENT OF STUDENT LIFE
- Mental & Physical Wellness: Partner with VSOs to host workshops for physical wellness; work to expand gym hours during the weekend; host ASSU sponsored events for students during difficult times of the year — therapy dogs during finals, arts & crafts, free food, while increasing accessibility to other peer and professional mental health resources
- Transportation and Safety: Work to increase the run-time of the Marg. during weekends; increase accessibility to bike lights and helmets; advocate for Stanford partnership with CalTrain
- Social Events: Incentivize student orgs. to design campus-wide social events through funding
- Campus Culture and Traditions: Revitalize and increase funding for the continuation of past campus traditions and the fostering of new campus traditions to improve campus culture
- Residential & Dining Enterprises: Ensure high quality of dining hall food; expand dining dollars to a greater variety of campus restaurants; work with Administration to better address RA protections and vacancy procedures
ADDRESSING ADVOCACY BARRIERS AND UPLIFTING UNDERREPRESENTED COMMUNITIES
- Protesting Rights: Negotiate with Stanford administration to promote longer time slots and fewer barriers for student protesting in White Plaza
- Education & Engagement: Sponsor student orgs. to host “Know Your Rights” workshops and other civic engagement opportunities on social justice issues while promoting and protecting future student protests
- Protecting Underrepresented Students: Uplift voices in advocating for access to equitable resources for FLI students; provide support for the Centers for Equity Community and Leadership (CECL)
BREAKING THE BUBBLE: BRIDGING STANFORD WITH THE GREATER BAY AREA REGION
- Resource-Sharing: Incentivize student orgs. to create programming that invites local residents to learn, engage, and benefit from Stanford’s knowledge and resources
- Creating Long Lasting Relationships: Through community-centered events, build student connections with residents in the greater Bay Area region
Thank you so much for reading on how we plan to L&D - Listen and Deliver as your Senators. We are eager to represent YOUR ideas, opinions, and perspectives with every decision that we make!
