Hi everyone! I’m Lucie Dang, and I am so happy to be writing to you as one of your future Senators :)
Like most Stanford students, I’ve already had plenty of moments where I thought, “there has to be a better way to do this.” I’m running because there is. And the student gov should be helping make it happen.
Here’s what I want to get done:
Transparency & Opportunities
“What Senate Did This Week” social media updates (so you actually know what your student gov is doing AND directly give feedback)
End-of-quarter newsletter + push to host 2 (two!) town halls each quarter so administrators answer directly to students
Launch a centralized hub for internships, funding, and campus opportunities (Stanford’s resources shouldn’t be hidden across Fizz posts and 99+ unread emails)
Advocacy & Student Voice
Launch an advocacy newsletter with happenings on campus, event permit guides, funding sources, and contact lists
Increase the protections, time and spaces alluded for student activism and free speech
Community
Work closely with ETAs to support and uphold their rights in the preassign process
Advocate to restore RF/RA hiring authority and increase RA compensation
Support community centers, co-ops, and themed housing as key student spaces
VSO Funding
Fair, transparent VSO funding with clear rubrics, annual funding reports, and quick grants (No more funding decisions that feel like a black box!)
Office hours to help orgs navigate funding
Dining
Expand where dining dollars can be used (Coupa, CoHo, Treehouse!) and expand dining halls feedback open hours. (More steaks? Less dry chicken? Tell them directly.)
Push for more dining dollars, especially for students in co-ops, self-ops, and independent houses
Transportation
Increase weekend Marguerite Shopping Express frequency and expand late-night routes
Push for Stanford-funded transit cards so students can access Caltrain and BART (USF, Cal already have transit passes, why shouldn’t we?)
It would be an honor to represent you in the ASSU Senate that works FOR and WITH its students. If this is the kind of Senate you want to see, I’d be honored to have your signature on my petition. Thank you!
