Hi! I’m Dan Kubota, hojicha enthusiast and dad hat collector. This past year, I served as Administration and Rules Chair of the 27th Undergraduate Senate. During that time, I accomplished the following:
-
Organized and hosted a campus-wide screening of the ESPN E60 documentary SAVE: The Katie Meyer Story and a Q&A with director Jen Karson-Strauss
- The goal was to start larger discussions on OCS reform and raise awareness of Katie’s story, given that many undergrads and grad students alike did not overlap with her time at Stanford
- Bob Ottilie ‘77, a lawyer who has advocated for students in these cases for over a decade, and interim OCS director and law school professor Lawrence Marshall were present, and I am in conversation with them about how to carry that momentum forward
- Helped financial officers understand the funding guidelines for their annual and quick grants and reviewed their planned submissions to help them find errors, made myself very available outside of normal working hours and aimed to respond within <24 hours of receiving an email
- Worked to confirm new members to the Elections Commission, balancing longevity in the role with prior experience
- Met with Financial Aid to get more clarity on independent versus dependent status
Next year, I hope to continue work on these initiatives and add a few more:
- Build on my connections made from the screening and continue to host more events and build an online repository of resources to help students going through the OCS process
- Working with ResEd to secure protections for RAs amid budget cuts, as a current frosh RA myself
- Work closely with ETAs to see how the Senate can continue to support them if the University threatens their removal/changes preassign process
If you resonate with the goals I have achieved thus far and the work I hope to continue next year, please sign my petition. Thank you!
Warmly,
Dan 💛
