THRIVE's Policy:
Our Why:
When the four of us decided to run for your class presidents, we couldn’t stop thinking: the Class of 2029 is pretty incredible. Every person here is remarkable in their own way; we realized how amazing we’d have to be to deserve to represent you. Without a shadow of a doubt, there isn’t a group of people we’d rather work for. To get to where you all are today, you had to do some incredible things. Picture all that we could do TOGETHER.
At the same time, we’ve all realized something. While Stanford is amazing, it can be a lot. Sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in everything & forget to pause, breathe, & take care of ourselves.
At the same time, we’ve all realized something. While Stanford is amazing, it can be a lot. Sometimes, it’s easy to get caught up in everything & forget to pause, breathe, & take care of ourselves.
That’s why we’re running as THRIVE
Our Plan:
We think our grade is the coolest, which is why we want to serve all of you! While we spent the past 6 months learning just how awesome you all are, we would be so sad if the whole grade didn't get the same opportunity. When we’re old & gray, we want you all to be friends, cofounders, hopefully even some marriages. Part of our plan is to make our sophomore year full of fun events, activities, and opportunities to get to know our grade!!
– Social Events and Operations! –
- Haunted House in Green Library (it’s a scary place already, why not go all the way?)
- Field day — Picture a Professor dunk tank, inflatable obstacle courses, snow cones…
- Reverse talent show — How about we show off the things we’re not amazing at yet?
- Improv @ Meyer Green — 22 Jump Street style #slam poetry
- All-class picnics on the oval, full of spikeball, snacks, and good vibes
- Stress relief week — pre-finals therapy dog visits, coloring, yoga classes, etc. (opportunities to reset and refocus so that we perform at our best!)
- Sophomore Spirit Week — a high school throwback with wacky costume themes, inter-dorm competitions, etc. (and watch out for an epic class-wide game of Assassin!)
- Movie nights @ Roble — popcorn, candy, snacks galore
- Small-group adventures around downtown Palo Alto — a monthly lottery system where the lucky winners get dinners, dessert runs, or spontaneous outings with sophomores you haven’t met yet!
- Finals week study sustenance stock-ups at Coupa, on us!
- Grade-wide time capsule — buried somewhere in the oval, opened at graduation (when there will inevitably be lots of “remember when…”)
- Drinks/fruit stands during hot weeks, and hammocks to soak up some Vitamin D
- Sick sophomore merch, designed by you!! We want YOU to submit designs for hoodies, shirts, and other merch, and for YOU to be the ones who vote on what you want!
- Sophomore-only CONCERTS @Frost!!
- The most fabulous Soph formal the world has ever seen: you’ll see your grade dressed to the nines at this absolute rager we plan on throwing
- Weekly updates about what's going on with YOU: All 1,956 of you are always up to something. Let’s show out for our grade! We’re going to work on publicizing games and performances where sophomores play a big role.
– Professional Development –
- Professor Speed dating — get paired with professors based on industries you’re interested in and enjoy some one-on-one networking time!
- Networking database for collaboration between sophomores (A database where you post your skills/goals, and we help you find your cofounders, project partners, etc.)
- Resume roast — panel of upperclassmen grills any sophomore brave enough to withstand it
- Free professional headshots @ the oval
– Policy Goals –
By definition, class presidents are NOT able to directly enact policy changes. We aren’t going to promise you anything when we know that, at the end of the day, we won’t have a vote. That being said, we DO plan to maintain regular communication with the ASSU Senate and will devote those efforts to communicating YOUR concerns (raised at our open-invite weekly meetings) in the hope that they will take them into account. Some ideas include more flexibility with dining dollars, extended breakfast hours, and earlier library opening hours on the weekends. We would love to hear any suggestions you have through the form linked in our Instagram (@thrive.stanford29) bio!!
